A B O U T

Philip Carrer is a DIY force to be reckoned with moving rapidly within the new generation of the Canadian film and music video utopians. Kicking things into third gear at the age of 23, his first film Desperate Souls (2005) was picked up by Alliance Atlantis and Lions Gate.

Years later, his uncompromising DIY mentality has allowed Carrer to direct feature films and over 50 music videos, which have aired on major television networks in the U.S and Canada such as TMN, TMN OnDemand, IFC and have garnered over one million hits on YouTube. Not one for leaping into the spotlight or catering to the candy coated aesthetic of Hollywood bi-product, PCARRER has always maintained one foot in the underground and one foot in the mainstream.

During his studies at the University of Guelph, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Theatre Studies, he worked as a freelance set painter and designer for productions at George Luscombe Theatre and other surrounding productions.

He quickly took his tools to the video world. He now has a hand in every aspect of his productions, from conceptual design, posters, artwork, editing, producing, directing, camera, music, writing andis also known for hiscontagiously fast paced directing style with an eye for set organics.

Having produced cost effective videos, Carrer has directed music videos for international hip hop group Swollen Members and the California based band Hed p.e. Other past projects include directing the video for "Everything U Need"

by Smash HI FI, which includes U.K artist Leeroy Thornhill, formerly of the world-renowned band The Prodigy.

Other artists whose music videos have fallen under Carrer's direction include: Hed p.e., D Loc, Richter, Eyes Set to Kill, Brokencyde, Black Sunshine, Dirtball, Final Trigger, Redeemer,X-Clan, Big B, Kottonmouth Kings, So Sick Social Club, Mower, Unwritten Law and Luke Nares.

His 2010 film, ‘IF A TREE FALLS’ which had it's world premiere at the Fantasia Film Festival (2010), was originally conceived to be stylized throwback to 70’s genre film but utilizes present day sensibilities relevant to the standards of today’s psychological thrillers and horror films. The entire film was shot, edited, scored and directed by Carrer.

Carrer also continues his on going side project entitled MKD (Monkey Destroy), influenced by his favorite pastimes, skateboarding and surfing. Carrer operates MKD as another outlet for his artwork that covers a broad range of mediums, from canvas, posters and skateboard art.
