About:
Philip Carrer is a Canadian screenwriter and director. He developed his love for the arts at an early age, studying classical piano at the Suzuki School of Music. This training provided him with the opportunity to open for internationally acclaimed conductor/violinist Yehudi Menuhin. It was during his education studying piano that Philip began his progression into film. His introduction to this industry happened when a selection of his music was featured in the international rock climbing documentary Frequent Flyers (2000). During his studies at the University of Guelph, where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Theatre Studies, Philip continued to pursue his interest in film. His first project was the low-budget horror feature film Desperate Souls (2005), where he was the co-writer and co-director. This film was subsequently distributed by Lions Gate and Alliance Atlantis. Following Desperate Souls, Philip added to his directing portfolio the feature films KILL (2006), Failing Light (2008), If A Tree Falls (2008) and the experimental short film Umbrella Rod (2008). Not limiting himself to narrative features, Philip has also directed the live-action promotional trailer for Septagon Studies comic book Masks (2008). The project stretched the boundaries of current comic book trailers, and Philip’s skills, by matching live images to those created by the illustrator of Masks.
